The M40 Sniper weapon system was developed and is used by the United States Marine Corps. The M40 is based on a Remington 700 Short Action but has been extensively hand-modified by U.S. Ordnance gunsmiths, using the best components from multiple suppliers. The barrel length was determined from extensive accuracy, velocity and flash suppression testing by the USMC. Test reports indicate the average life of the Schneider barrel is more than 10,000 rounds while still holding minute of angle groups at 600 yards.
The M40A5 is based on the Remington 700 Short Action. All of these actions are chambered in 7.62mm NATO and house-tuned by U.S. Ordnance armorers.
BarrelSchneider 610 / 24-inch, 6-groove, 1:12” match-grade heavy barrel chambered in 7.62mm NATO.
StockAll of our M40A5s are based on the A4 Tactical Riflestock, a high-quality benchrest-style McMillan Fiberglass Stock, and cast molded in an OD Green color. The action is glass bedded into the stock with aluminum pillars, while the barrel is allowed to "float" (it is attached only to the action), ensuring maximum accuracy. The stock has adjustable length-of-pull (through a buttstock spacer system) and an adjustable saddle-type cheekpiece.
DayscopeOn the M40A5, the Leupold Mark 4 LR/T 4.5-14X 50mm rifle scope will replace the MST-100 Unertl type fixed 10x day scope currently used for the M40A3. The dayscope is mounted with Badger Ordnance Maximum scope rings, with a standard ring in the rear and a wider MAX50-brand ring in front, to allow for mounting of a Badger Ordnance ringcap (which enables mounting of SIMRAD add-on night vision devices).
TriggerguardThe Badger Ordnance BDM Triggerguard is a heavy-duty guard like its M4 triggerguard but allows for quick loading/unloading via a bulletproof, five-round magazine utilizing a time-proven Paddle-style magazine release. The guard includes grade 5 Torx screws and pre-made pillars to guarantee exact fit and perfect function. Made from aircraft-grade aluminum and Hardcoat anodized black. Ten-round magazines available.
