Machinegun Operators Course

This course is designed to expand
your operational capabilities and manipulation skills with the M60,
M60D, M60E3, M60E4, and
Mk43MOD1 Machineguns.

  • You will learn the safe and proper handling of the machinegun to include its maintenance and operation.
  • Characteristics and general data will be covered as well as the proper assembly/disassembly; cleaning, lubrication and function checks of the machinegun will be performed.
  • All variants and modifications to the M60 series machineguns will be covered in depth.
  • We will discuss the use and assembly of bipod, tripod and vehicular mounting systems as available.
  • We will fine-tune your loading/unloading procedures. We will also cover the identification, location and replacement procedures for worn or broken parts.
  • Emergency procedures for the following conditions will be covered and performed in depth: malfunctions, stoppages, immediate action and remedial action.
  • We will discuss types of ammunition, optical and night vision equipment as well as various accessories available for the M60 series machineguns.
  • Learn how and when to properly replace the barrel of the machinegun, and how to properly install the blank firing adapter.
  • Conduct proper zeroing procedures for the machinegun and understand the capabilities of the machinegun with relation to trajectory and classifications of fire.
  • Learn to handle the machinegun with extreme confidence and perform various techniques of live fire drills on hard targets while under stress.
  • Learn to handle the machinegun as a single machinegun operator or as part of a crew-served weapons team.

M60 Armorer Course

This course is designed to assist the Operator and the Armorer in the proper care and maintenance of the M60 series machineguns to include the M60, M60E3, M60E4, M60D and the Mk43Mod1. The course is designed with the Operator in mind. Topics to be covered will include:

  • Safe and proper weapons handling procedures.
  • General data and nomenclature for all M60 series machineguns.
  • Variants and modifications to the M60 series machineguns will be covered in depth.
  • General and detailed disassembly of weapons and components.
  • Identification of mismatched parts and components.
  • Armorer level disassembly to include:
    • Feed tray cover
    • Bolt to include extractor, ejector and stoning of surfaces.
    • Trigger group
    • Gas system
    • Barrel group disassemblies to include the carrying handle.
    • Receiver group to include bipod, ammunition hanger and fore-grip and rear sight assembly.
  • Weapons related specifications and tolerances to include:
    • Barrel erosion
    • Headspace
    • Firing pin protrusion
    • Maintenance and inspection of all weapon components.
    • Identification and replacement of worn or broken parts.
    • Care and cleaning and lubrication.
    • Proper weapons assembly.
    • Performance of a proper function check.
    • Cycle of operation will be covered in detail.
    • Malfunctions and troubleshooting/ immediate action/ remedial action.
  • Range drills will reinforce classroom instruction with emphasis on field expedient maintenance methods that will assist the Operator/Armorer in the field and while on the range. These intense drills will allow the Operator/Armorer to troubleshoot and fix the machinegun on the spot when necessary to keep the weapon functioning. These drills will include:
    • Gun Checks
    • Proper loading and unloading procedures
    • Zeroing procedures
    • Malfunction drills
    • Field expedient maintenance
    • Simulated night loads and weapon setup
    • Reloads
    • Performance under stress
